Government announces additional support for businesses

Stuart Brown | 21 December 2021

The Chancellor, Rishi Sunak, has today announced that additional support will be available for businesses that have been impacted by the Omicron variant.

In this press release, the government have stated that businesses in the hospitality and leisure sectors in England will be eligible for one-off grants of up to £6,000 per premises.

The level of grant receivable is dependant upon the rateable value of the property. The grant will be:

  • £2,700 for a property value between £0 - £15,000.
  • £4,000 for a property value between £15,000 - £51,000.
  • £6,000 for any property valued over £51,000.

In addition, more than £100 million discretionary funding will be made available for local authorities to support other businesses. Further details regarding the distribution of this funding will be available shortly.

The government have also confirmed that they will cover the cost of Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) for COVID related absences for small and medium-sized employers across the UK.

A further £30 million funding will be made available through the Culture Recovery Fund, enabling more cultural organisations in England to apply for support during the winter.
