Farming Matters: Sustainable agriculture for a better climate

| , | 1 August 2022 | 09:00-12:30

Catch up on this event, hosted by director Tom Hindmarch, who was joined by sector specialists sharing topical insights for those operating in the agriculture industry.

We were pleased to welcome guest speakers Alan Byrne of Agreena and Terrafarmer's Tom Tolputt, who presented their knowledge and experience of regenerative farming.

Alan Byrne, as a customer success specialist, has supported Agreena with its soil carbon offsetting program. During his session, Alan explored how farmers get and gain reward for regenerative/sustainable farming techniques through environmental or carbon payments in combination with building their brand.

Tom Tolputt has been working in nutrition and organic farming for 25 years. Alongside his consultancy business, Tom farms 600 acres on an organic beef arable rotation where he puts regenerative and biological farming into practice. Tom set up Terrafarmer, a new consultative, analysis and supply service, with his business partner Gemma Clarke to help farm businesses adopt regenerative farm practices on a national scale. Tom's presentation provided an overview of the current situation, the work they are doing in carbon measurement and some basic strategies to improve soil health.
