The Duncan & Toplis Foundation extends its support to Lincoln Sea Cadets

| The Duncan & Toplis Foundation | 25 July 2024

The Lincoln Sea Cadets, who occupy “T.S. Wrangler” on the Brayford waterside offer training blocks for young people with the aim of improving life chances at school, in work and for the community as a whole. They offer a range of training in qualifications including activities such as sailing, power boating, kayaking and sailing, alongside first aid skills, marine engineering and support for Duke of Edinburgh awards, and a BTEC course in leadership.

The unit is an official RYA training centre for Sailing and Power Boating, provides British Canoeing training (Go Paddle awards) and is a Sea Cadet rowing centre. Our Royal Marines Cadet Detachment operates under the Royal Marine Corps practices. They work through many of the same courses as the Sea Cadets but specialise in fieldcraft activities such as patrolling, setting up camps, weapons training, drill, map reading etc.

Alicia Armsworth, Treasurer and Trustee at Lincoln Sea Cadets said:

“As part of our weekend educational programmes, we do cater for our students, which as you can imagine is pretty labour intensive. Anyone who has tried washing up after cooking for up to 90 people knows just how much washing up there is, and unsurprisingly our dishwasher has now reached the end of its usable service!

“A new dishwasher will make a huge difference, particularly to those who plan or deliver the courses to the cadets, meaning they have more time to prepare the next meal, paperwork or lesson planning.

"Local businesses who are able to support local charities are incredibly important and all donations mean the world to us.

"It means we can continue with the work we have been doing for the last 80 years with the youth of Lincoln and surrounding areas by keeping them off the streets and giving them skills for the future so we would like to extend our thanks to The Duncan & Toplis Foundation!"

Duncan & Toplis Director and Trustee of The Duncan & Toplis Foundation, Rachel Barrett, said:

“We’re delighted to support a historic institution such as the Sea Cadets with something that’s so fundamental to the efficient running of their base. We hope the dishwasher keeps up with demand for a few more years yet!”
