Alistair Main, Head of Assurance

Training, development and education are important parts of our culture, and we are well regarded as a place where talented people can hone their skills and progress their careers, with several team members rising from trainee to the very top.

When I joined Duncan & Toplis, the company helped me gain accountancy qualifications, supporting me through my exams and getting my career started. From there, I gained new skills and specialisms; I learned how to manage a team and I began to lead projects which have helped to shape how the company operates today.

“Education doesn’t end when you leave school, learning is a lifelong process which the best employers encourage and support”, said former pupil of Spalding Grammar School Alistair Main, who began his career fresh out of university when he joined Duncan & Toplis as an audit and accounts trainee.

“Now, I’m a director, helping to steer the company into the future, but I wouldn’t have made it this far without the love of learning which was nurtured in me in secondary school.”

As head of assurance, Alistair has been instrumental in leading our company toward a one-team, service-led approach while developing the audit team into one of the best in the industry. Alistair has embraced technology and innovation to streamline processes across the company and deliver outstanding results for clients.

In recent years, Alistair was shortlisted for the award for East Midlands Young Director of the Year by the Institute of Directors and he also contributed to winning a British Accountancy Award for our work supporting the International Bomber Command Centre in Lincolnshire.

“We’re really pleased to be sponsoring the award for Secondary School Student of the Year at the Lincolnshire Education Awards because I hope it encourages and inspires young people to have a passion for learning which will see them fulfil their potential.”
