Haven Domestic Abuse Service receives funding from The Duncan & Toplis Foundation

| The Duncan & Toplis Foundation | 12 November 2024

Haven Domestic Abuse Service has been providing specialist domestic abuse services since 1987, supporting men, women and children who are living with or have experienced domestic abuse.

The charity’s team of dedicated and experienced practitioners are passionate about making a difference to people’s lives and strive to share the charity’s values with the people they support.

The donation from The Duncan & Toplis Foundation will be used to support the charity’s Sponsor A Room appeal. This project will help the charity to redecorate and refurbish its refuge spaces to make them warm and welcoming for victims who have fled their homes for their own safety and that of their children.

The funding will be used to purchase things such as matching curtains and bedding, new towels, cushions, shelving, trinkets, photo frames, pictures for the walls, toiletries and comforting gifts for children.

Chloe Waters, Funding and Communications Officer at Haven Domestic Abuse Service, said:

“We are delighted to be awarded £1,000 towards our Sponsor A Room appeal, which will help us to make our refuge spaces warm and welcoming for victims who have fled their home.

“When victims have to pack up their belongings into a single bag with a moment’s notice, all the ‘nice’ things like pretty gifts from friends and family get left behind. That’s why we like to make our refuge spaces as homely as possible.

“The funding will make a huge difference to the emotional wellbeing of our families and encourage them to stay with us for as long as they need to feel safe. Thank you to The Duncan & Toplis Foundation for believing in what we do and supporting such a valuable project.”

Niall Kingsley, Director at Duncan & Toplis and Trustee of The Duncan & Toplis Foundation, added:

“We choose three to five focus areas for the foundation every year and ‘food and shelter’ is often one of these, so the work of Haven Domestic Abuse Service hugely aligns with our priorities.

“We’re over the moon to be supporting the Sponsor A Room appeal and hope that it truly helps to make what is a very difficult time a little bit easier for the people the charity supports.”
