New specialist changing bed to enhance accessibility for Melton families

| The Duncan & Toplis Foundation

The Duncan & Toplis Foundation supports charities and community organisations that help create more inclusive and accessible communities. Among the latest recipients is Melton Mencap, a charity that provides essential support and opportunities for children, young people and adults with disabilities across the Melton borough.

A grant from the Foundation will contribute towards the purchase and installation of a new specialist changing bed for the charity’s registered Changing Places facility. The modern, height-adjustable bed will replace existing equipment that has reached the end of its usable life, helping to ensure the facility remains fully compliant with Changing Places standards and continues to provide a safe, dignified environment for users.

Melton Mencap is committed to creating safe and inclusive spaces for individuals with learning disabilities, physical disabilities and complex needs. Through a range of services including personal support, day services, social clubs and respite care, the organisation helps people develop independence, reduce social isolation and enjoy fulfilling lives within their local community.

The charity’s Changing Places facility plays a vital role not only for people accessing its services, but also for families and individuals across the wider community. As part of this, the specialist toilet facilities are open to anyone who requires them, providing access to equipment that many people with complex disabilities depend upon to safely participate in everyday life.

The donation from The Duncan & Toplis Foundation helps ensure the facility remains available to those who need it most, preventing potential disruption to services and giving local families the confidence that accessible facilities are available when visiting the area. By supporting the replacement of this vital equipment, the grant will help remove barriers to community participation while promoting dignity, safety and inclusion for all.

Alison Smith, Finance Officer at Melton Mencap, said: “We are absolutely thrilled and incredibly grateful to The Duncan & Toplis Foundation for this generous £1,000 donation.

“Replacing our changing bed ensures that our facility remains fully operational. Because our doors are open to anyone in the community who needs these specialist facilities, this donation doesn't just support Melton Mencap - it supports dignity, safety and inclusion for families right across the Melton borough. Thank you.”
