Supporting food bank services and community wellbeing in Grimsby

| The Duncan & Toplis Foundation

The Duncan & Toplis Foundation continues to support charities and community organisations that provide practical support to those facing hardship within their local communities. Among the latest recipients is Side Door Youth and Community Church Food Bank, a community-focused organisation that delivers a wide range of services designed to support individuals and families across Grimsby and the surrounding area.

The grant will purchase food bank provisions, helping the organisation continue providing essential items to people experiencing financial difficulties. The funding supports individuals and families by ensuring that basic necessities remain available to those who need them most.

Side Door Youth and Community Church is much more than a food bank. The organisation provides a welcoming community hub where people of all ages can access support, activities and opportunities to connect with others. Alongside its food bank service, it operates an affordable community café, a free soft play area for children aged up to five, and a multi-sensory room that can be enjoyed by people of all ages.

The charity also runs a variety of groups aimed at tackling social isolation and improving wellbeing, including a sewing group for people experiencing mental health challenges and a social group for adults with additional needs. Through initiatives such as Messy Church, community lunches for older people, and regular community events, the organisation creates opportunities for people to come together, build relationships and access support in a welcoming environment.

As the cost of living continues to place pressure on many households, demand for food bank services remains high. The donation from The Duncan & Toplis Foundation will help ensure that Side Door can continue to meet this need while maintaining the wider community services that support wellbeing, inclusion and connection for local people.

Bethany Watkinson, Treasurer at Side Door Youth and Community Church Food Bank, said: “Side Door wishes to thank Duncan & Toplis for their very kind donation. We are always humbled and deeply grateful for such support.

“This donation will enable us to buy the provisions we need to continue drawing alongside those who are in need, helping us provide practical support to individuals and families who are struggling.”
