The Duncan & Toplis Foundation continues to support communities close to its location, providing grants to charities within a 20-mile radius to help them deliver vital local services. Among the latest recipients is Don’t Lose Hope, a Bourne-based mental health charity that has been transforming lives for the past seven years.
The Foundation’s grant will fund free counselling for five children, providing a total of 40 sessions delivered by specially trained therapists. For younger children, this includes play therapy, using art and creativity to support emotional healing and development. By funding these sessions, the donation ensures that financial hardship is not a barrier to accessing essential mental health support.
Don’t Lose Hope plays a critical role within its community, offering free and low-cost therapy to individuals aged four and above. It is the only charity providing this level of support for children within a 40-mile radius, often stepping in where families face long NHS waiting lists, high referral thresholds or a lack of specialist services. Its work ensures that children receive help at the right time, preventing issues from escalating and supporting long-term wellbeing.
The impact of early intervention is clear. Children who may initially present as withdrawn or anxious are supported to express themselves, build resilience and develop coping strategies. Families benefit from calmer home environments, while schools see improved attendance and engagement. This support not only changes individual lives but also reduces wider pressures on healthcare services.
Jenna Maryniak, Fundraising Manager and Counsellor at Don’t Lose Hope, said: “Don’t Lose Hope thrives on community spirit and support. We could not provide our life-changing counselling services to those facing financial hardship without the generosity of our community. It means so much to see local businesses look beyond profit and give back. Thank you, Duncan & Toplis, for this generous donation.”
