Louth Playgoers Society has received a grant from The Duncan & Toplis Foundation to support a new wave of volunteer recruitment, helping the group expand its reach and strengthen its role at the heart of the local community.
Based at the Louth Riverhead Theatre, the Louth Playgoers Society is volunteer-driven, with more than 100 people contributing their time across all aspects of theatre life from front-of-house and wardrobe, to set design and performance. The new funding will help promote these opportunities more widely, encouraging people from all backgrounds to get involved.
A key initiative is an open day during the Friends Festival, showcasing the variety of roles available and welcoming new faces into the organisation. By highlighting the inclusive and supportive environment the theatre offers, the Louth Playgoers Society attracts individuals who may not have previously considered volunteering in the arts.
The initiative is also a direct response to growing concerns around social isolation and loneliness. By creating more opportunities for people to connect, contribute and belong, Louth Playgoers aims to extend the sense of community and shared purpose that has long defined the theatre.
On receiving the grant, Clare Holland, Company secretary for the Louth Playgoers Society, said: “We would like to thank The Duncan & Toplis Foundation for their support with our volunteer recruitment activities. It is vital to our continued success here in Louth.”
