The Duncan & Toplis Foundation demonstrated its commitment to supporting local communities, with a grant awarded to Willoughby Road Allotments in Boston. The Foundation provides funding to charities and organisations within a 20km radius of its location, helping to strengthen the communities its people live and work in.
Allotments have long been at the heart of community life across the UK, providing opportunities for social connection, improved wellbeing, and growing wholesome organic fruit and vegetables. In an increasingly digital and fast-paced world, these shared green spaces remain vital in bringing people together, fostering a sense of belonging and supporting both physical and mental health.
Willoughby Road Allotments is a strong example of this community spirit in action. The site is open to everyone and includes community areas, sensory gardens and an on-site café, creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all.
The grant from The Duncan & Toplis Foundation will be used for works and improvements across the site, which will ensure the space remains safe, accessible and enjoyable for the many individuals and families who rely on it.
Gerry Ladds, Chairperson of Willoughby Road Allotments, said: “We heard of the Foundation from someone who had already been a recipient of a donation. We are extremely grateful for the generous donation that we will receive and the difference it will make to the site for all of our users. The site is used by many people, and the donation means that we can continue to offer the site to them.”
