The History of Duncan & Toplis

Video | 17 October 2025

Founded in 1925, Duncan & Toplis has grown from a single office into a leading multidisciplinary accounting and business adviser. This journey is not just about our longevity, but our ability to evolve alongside our clients, our people, and the communities we serve.

Over the past century, we have built a strong regional presence while continually adapting our services and industries we work with to meet changing business needs.

Our expansion truly gathered momentum in the latter half of the 20th century. We opened locations in Sleaford in 1967, followed by Skegness in 1969, Boston in 1974, and Newark in 1985. Each new location represented more than growth; it was a commitment to being accessible, local, and responsive to businesses across Lincolnshire and neighbouring counties.

By the late 1980s and throughout the 1990s, we continued to strengthen our footprint with offices in Stamford and Melton Mowbray, while also broadening what we could offer clients. During this period, we launched key services including financial management in 1994, corporate finance in 1996, and IT services in 1999, reflecting the increasingly complex challenges faced by modern businesses.

Entering the new millennium, our focus remained firmly on strategic growth. The opening of our Lincoln location in 2001 was followed by the acquisitions of a Spalding location in 2006 and a Louth location in 2007. This era also marked important partnerships, including our collaboration with the international Kreston Global network in 2011, which expanded our ability to support clients domestically and internationally.

We were proud to receive multiple ICAEW East Midlands awards in 2015 and 2017, that recognises excellence across our profession. Our commitment to innovation, client care, and community impact has been reflected in accolades such as the Investor in Customers Gold Award and recognition for our work with the Lincoln-based Bomber Command Centre.

In 2022, we launched The Duncan & Toplis Foundation with a clear and purposeful mission: to support local communities while strengthening the company’s long-standing commitment to corporate social responsibility. Our focus on social responsibility was further cemented by being declared “On the road to Net Zero”.

We continue to balance our proud heritage with a forward-looking approach, and this video highlights our continued evolution through the 100 years of Duncan & Toplis.
