Carers First receives funding from The Duncan & Toplis Foundation

The Ducan & Toplis Foundation is delighted to be supporting Carers First with grant funding.

It’s estimated that there are over 70,000 people in Lincolnshire who are providing unpaid care for a relative or friend. The mission of Carers First is to support these carers, with both practical and emotional support, offering information and advice, and the opportunity to attend respite time away from their caring roles.

Carers First approached the Foundation with a view to supporting male carers in particular to cut down on isolation.

Kelly Granger, Care Support Advisor at Carers First said:

“At the charity, we understand that life as a carer can be challenging. Carers First works directly with thousands of unpaid carers to provide personalised information and tailored support. More than 40% of the UK’s unpaid carers are male, and are often classed as the ‘unseen carers’ and in our experience are more hesitant to ask for help.

“This grant will allow our male carers to take a break from their caring role, doing something fun and memorable, making friends, and developing their support networks. This will include activities such as indoor bowling, private cinema screenings, and sporting events.

“On behalf of the charity I would like to extend our thanks to the Duncan & Toplis Foundation for the support it has given.”

Duncan & Toplis director and trustee of The Duncan & Toplis Foundation, Kay Botley, said:

“There are around seven million unpaid carers in the UK – that is one in ten people. Despite this, many people do not identify as a carer, and may not access the support that they need. In supporting Carers First, hopefully we can raise awareness of the plight of unpaid carers and the support that’s out there, in particular male carers who are an often overlooked demographic.”
