Watch on demand: G for Governance

Duncan & Toplis | 24 November 2023

On 20 November, Sally-Anne Hurn, and Head of Technical and Assurance Stuart Brown were joined by Martin Baxter, Deputy CEO of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment.

They discussed:

  • How SMEs can integrate sustainability into their organisation
  • The benefits of addressing ESG and sustainability for small and medium enterprises
  • How SMEs can still be affected by EU legislation through their supply chain, and
  • An overview of some of the new standards.

Martin shared his thoughts on the benefits of ESG and sustainability for SMEs, who will be impacted by this, and how, actions that SMEs can take to prepare their organisation for change, and shared with us a framework that organisations can use to evaluate their risks opportunities and financial impact within their organisations.

Stuart explained how 2023 has been a pivotal year for the standardisation of ESG reporting standards, as well has highlighting the potential difficulties businesses may encounter when comparing different standards. He reviewed standards ranging from ISSB to IFRS S1 and 2, the twelve EU standards, and the assurance standard under consultation – ISSA 5000 (you can read more about that here.

It was another interesting session in our ESG webinar series, all of which are a must-watch for any SME wondering where to begin when formulating their ESG policies and putting them into practice.
