Payroll Trainee

We are looking for an enthusiastic and detail-focused Payroll Trainee to join our friendly Outsourced Payroll team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a career in payroll, with full training and support provided.

No previous payroll experience is necessary. We are looking for someone who is keen to learn, organised, numerate and confident working with confidential information.

What does this role involve?

As part of the payroll team, you will provide a quality payroll service to clients, supporting the service line to achieve targets and ensuring operational objectives are met.

Client experience

As a Payroll Trainee, you will develop strong client relationships by providing a friendly, professional and responsive service. You will support clients with payroll queries, communicate clearly and accurately, and ensure their needs are handled efficiently while maintaining confidentiality and attention to detail.

Skills and experience

  • Manage your assigned clients, delivering payrolls as required and as per letter of engagement (LoE).
  • Maintain a high standard of client service and compliance within all relevant payroll legislation.
  • Take steps to ensure that all work is completed efficiently, and that administration and records are up to date, in line with agreed procedures.
  • Demonstrate exemplary communication skills, ensuring the flow of relevant information between clients and the bureau.
  • Dealing with all client queries, you will proactively fulfil client requirements and expectations, ensuring that relevant queries are escalated, and that action is taken to resolve them in a timely manner.
  • Develop a growing understanding of the relevant technology and adhere to our SOPS, systems, and in-house software.
  • Actively support the payroll team to ensure overall bureau service delivery is met in line with specified targets.
  • Ensure absolute compliance with all cyber and data protection rules/regulations (both internal and external).
  • Take steps to ensure that all work is completed efficiently, and that billing procedures and records are in line with agreed procedures.
  • Proactively report to the payroll manager, taking care to specifically highlight any changes or anomalies that may have a financial implication to the client or us (e.g., extra client requests, significant overruns, or re-drafting work).
  • Actively engage with all internal training plans on improving technical and soft skills to increase overall performance and contribute to the winning of new business for the company.
  • Actively engage with, and participate in, company-wide initiatives.

What we are looking for

  • Participation in formal training, including on-the-job training.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a wider team.
  • The ability to create accurate work under tight deadlines and with quick turnaround times.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Development of professional and technical knowledge, including knowledge of payroll and pensions.
  • Development of a broad range of IT skills to underpin performance.
